Drinks [D] Yet ANOTHER newbie =)

Hey everyone! I've been considering going for a PSO for quiet a while now. Next week I'll be getting my new computer so it should facilitate things a bit. But, my dilema, I have NO idea where to start! I've been reading several posts on this page, but now my head is spinning from so much information. I've got to make a few extra dollars to help pay off my monthly dues =( I'm a single mother so I've got all this on my own =\ Any straight forward advice would be greatly appreciated! What should I expect as a newbie as far as dealing with companies, pay rate, call time to log in, and how busy they get. And if possible, recommend a good company to start with where I can still lead a normal life with the little one. I don't want to dedicate  80+ hours if I'm only going to be bringing in $150. I think I'm being a realist to expect to put in a max. of 60 hours. (Correct me if I'm wrong, please! And don't mind the ignorance LOL)

Just anything to set me in the right direction would be great!

And, thanks in advance for any advice!

    ♥Alex

    Welcome, Alex. :)

It's understandable that you have many questions and are unsure as to where to begin.  As for what to expect with the various PSO companies out there, the best thing I can suggest at this stage for you is to take some time to read through the company review sections/forum in the Good/Bad/Ugly thread.  It will give you some sense of which companies might best fit with what you have to offer.

I have a few questions for you to ponder, actually.  I'm assuming you have not worked as a PSO before...and that's totally ok.  There are many companies who don't mind hiring newbies with little or no prior experience.  But, what I wanted to pose to you, is, what made you decide to get into the PSO business?  What sort of experience do you have already that might be able to be transferred into this line of work?  Have you ever worked in the adult industry in another capacity? How would you rate your writing skills?  How good at you at thinking on your feet?

You mention being a single mom...are your children old/responsible enough to be able to be left unattended while you're on the phone? Do you have childcare set up if your child needs supervision during your work hours?  (If you are willing to be logged in 60-ish hours/week, I believe most companies would consider that do-able; some PSO's do work more than that, but 60 hrs/week sounds good to most managers).

These are very likely going to be questions a PSO company/manager will ask you on an interview.  Before you start applying, it would be good for you to be able to have answers to the above questions I presented. Once you know those things about yourself, it will be easier to narrow down which direction to take next.

Hopefully, this gives you some things to think about...and congrats on taking the 1st steps toward beginning a career as a PSO!

Good GRIEF! Maybe I am a witch today but I sware telling a newby that most companies would consider her if she puts in 60ish hrs a week? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh no! I never put in more than 35 hours a week total and I work 2 dispatch companies plus NF. I make at least $950 a week. My hold times are really good so a newby with lil or no experience may start out making a good bit less but 60ish hrs a week is not necessary with a many of companies. Not every PSO can do that. Good for the one that can, wish I could!

I have to agree,60 hours a week with kids at home? You must be Merlin then,I raised 3 kids and a 40 hour a week job and balancing the family life was hard! Im not saying you cant do that hon,All Im saying is I agree with Layla, always shoot for a viable goal to start like,35 hours per week and THEN, if you can work more, than make those extra hours.Because I will guarntee you, you tell a company that you can work 60 hours per week they will hold you to that, and if things come up and they will raising kids, and you cannot commit to those hours, they will not be very happy. And you cant blame them, they have a business to run. I will also say right now, this is a very competitive market and customers want thier girls at a certain time, and if you arent there, they will go someplace else causing companies to lose clients, and that will cut your contract quicker than anything.

peace and love, may it cover the earth in 2010.

    Nah, you're not a witch. :)

Apparently I wasn't as clear as I could've been in my initial response.  It's not to say that a newbie (or any PSO for that matter) *has* to put in 60 hrs/week to be considered for a position.  What I meant to say--and SHOULD have said--was that the more availability a PSO offers when applying at a company, it can only increase her chances of getting hired.  Most companies prefer someone who can commit to a full time schedule and in the PSO world, "full time" is typically 40+ hours/week.  Good for you, Layla for being so successful and managing your time so well!

It does amaze me though, when I see some PSO's who put in all those hours...I for one know that I'd never be able to do it and keep my sanity.

    Big Smile

Wish I could put more time into my main company but just as soon as I do I am either waiting for calls or watching my hold time drop, basically losing money. The only extra money I get is from a keen call every now and again. I usually turn on my accounts there while I am sleeping during the day.

Ughh, yeah that sucks, hon. It does seem like you have the right idea...spreading your time over a couple of companies and NF.  Sometimes it feels like its like a crapshoot though...one thing I totally learned in this biz is that its unpredictable.  It always felt like just when I thought I figured out which time frames were busiest for me to log in, it'd change and become the opposite! Surprise

Btw, Layla,  do you do Keen and NF? Or were you just referring to NF when you mentioned Keen?

I do NF at set times with a few loyal regulars wed and sunday nights using a private line. For me, dispatch is slow those nights. And I only turn on my 3 keen accounts when I am sleeping lol. Might not get a call for 3 weeks on keen then all of a sudden get 5 calls in 1 day. I keep my rates between $1.99 & $3.99. . . . no wonder nobody hardly ever calls but I need to sleep anyway : )
