    is Comcast Digital Voice ok?

After absorbing a lot of the information and tips posted on the boards, I've decided to start applying for PSO positions.

My only problem is getting home phone service set up (I've been cell-only for over 5 years)... I spent 48 minutes on the phone with AT&T today trying to set up my address (a new high rise building) for service, but they can't 'find' it.  I called back and spent another 25 minutes wih someone else.  I then called my building management company and was told that the phone service provider for the building is Comcast (a cable company) that provides digital phone service.

My question is this:  can I use a digital phone service?  It isn't a skype style computer connection, and seems that I can use a regular phone, but I'm not sure.  Can anyone offer insight?  I don't want to set it up only to find it is not acceptable.  A link is below in case anyone wants to take a peak.: http://www.comcast.com/Benefits/CHSIBenefits.asp

ALSO - must I purchase a corded phone, or do cordless landline phones work fine?

Most companies do not allow cordless phones. I would be scared to use a cordless for my work because I have heard heard my neighbors telephone conversations with my cordless phone, I would imagine that they could hear me as well. There are others reasons not to use a cordless like the battery dying or static. I read a post yesterday where someone posted that they used a cordless for telephone acting & had no problems but I would recommend a corded phone.

Hopefully you will get a few replies about the cable phone service or try using search to see if there is already a thread regarding cable telephone lines. I'm pretty sure there is?

comcast digital service is awesome. I have had both at&t and now comcast.... there is no difference on reception and now there is a triple play...cable, internet and phone for $90 per month. Very wise and economical. good luck!

I have had comcast digital voice and actually had a second line installed without features to work off, even with companies that said you could not use digital. I even used a cordless headset telephone and a corded one, they both worked well. I am not encouraging others to do as I did but just saying. It worked for me. NEVER had a problem or disconnection. Unless you are in an area with frequent power outages it can work. I even had battery backup that the phone stayed on for 2 hours after the power went out. if you do this I suggest having another phone (cell or internet (skype, google, etc. with internet on the go) so that you can log out of work and notify the office that you have a power outage and need to log out of work. Just and FYI do with it what you will. Not everyone has the money to have a second phone line installed and if the company turns out not to work for you you have added another expense to your budget and no income to pay for it. You can always add the second landline when you feel comfortable and that company will work for you. AGAIN, do with the information what you will.

    Assume The Position!

Thank you for the responses!  The comments about corded phones and the additional threads linked in were very helpful.

I've been using Comcast digital voice for 4 years now not only to take calls but to dispatch them as well. I love Comcast, it's great reception and works fine. I also use it for my NF too without a problem.
